A Nostalgic Mom’s Top 5 New Mexican Favorites

1

Albuquerque, my family and I are moving. I’m very excited to be closer to family, within the same neighborhood, in fact. But as so many before me have experienced, you only know what you got when it’s gone. So, as I was facing, and mourning all of my favorites that I will miss about the Land of Enchantment, I decided my loss could be your gain. You lovely mommies don’t have to miss out! Experience what I soon won’t be able to.

Here’s my top 5 New Mexico favorites! Check them out before it’s too late!!

#5 Hiking Trails

Nature walks your thing? Albuquerque has the Sandias, the Rio Grande, and so many different places to experience beauty. AND we’re entering my favorite season in the 505, fall! So no excuses, pull on those tennies, and breathe in some crisp fall air!

#4 Sandia TramA Nostalgic Mom's Top 5 New Mexican Favorites from Albuquerque Moms Blog

Going down my list of favorites, the Tram has always been one of my go-to destinations for out-of-town guests. The views are amazing all the way to the top, and in just a few minutes you feel as though you’ve traveled to a place completely unconnected to the busy city below. Plus, more trails!

#3 Tent Rock Monument

This place is other-worldly. Walk through caverns of cones and climb to the top to see a truly unique landscape. Only about 45 minutes from Albuquerque, this day (or even half-day) trip is well worth it. And the “action” starts right away, so whether or not your kiddos can make it to the end you’ll get to experience the magic!

#2 Cliff DwellingsA Nostalgic Mom's Top 5 New Mexican Favorites from Albuquerque Moms Blog

New Mexico is such a history-rich state. I love traveling back in time, and with so many beautifully preserved and rebuilt archaeological sites, it’s easy to do. Bandelier National Monument is a wonderful example. With both ranger-guided and self-guided tours (for those of us whose children might be considered a tad loud for others’ learning experiences), it’s a great opportunity to see, feel, and experience history. Which is why it makes my favorites list at #2! And if you get hooked and want a more extensive cliff-dwelling site, take a day or weekend trip up to our Colorado neighbors and check out Mesa Verde. Definitely worth the 4-hour drive!

#1 Green ChiliA Nostalgic Mom's Top 5 New Mexican Favorites from Albuquerque Moms Blog

Ok, so I know this is cliche, but when people ask me what I’m going to miss most, my first answer (after friends, of course) is the food! I am going to go through serous green chili withdraw! So, after you’ve shipping some of the spicy delicacy up to your displaced Albuquerque-sister-in-need, sit down and enjoy some yourself. On whatever. Because it’s literally good on EVERYTHING.
