Whether you’re new to Albuquerque, new to motherhood, or just haven’t found your “tribe” yet, meeting your new mom bff and building a network of mama friends is just a few steps away. Follow the tips below to start getting out there and meeting them!
Make Facebook your new best friend.
Social media is the new hangout spot for moms. There are so many local moms’ groups out there! There are groups for babywearing moms, crunchy moms, stay-at-home moms, breastfeeding moms . . . and the list goes on! Pick 2-3 that sound interesting and join their Facebook Group. Check out their upcoming events and you’ll get a feel for if it aligns with your thoughts on parenting/motherhood. Definitely start with Albuquerque Moms Blog’s new neighborhood groups to see what moms are up to in your area!
Plan to go to at least 2-3 events.
Of the Facebook mom groups that you join, choose 2-3 events from each group to try out. Now, I say 2-3 because it can take a while to break into a new group, meet a good variety of the moms, and really get a feel for the vibe. Give it a go, keep an open mind, and then, if it’s just not a good fit, leave the group and pick another to try!
Your best bet: other Albuquerque moms
If you meet a mom at an event that you really click with, send her a friend request on Facebook. (You can usually see who went to the event on the group event page.) Other moms are going to be plugged in to the local scene and are a great way to find new events and groups that could be a good fit for you!
Don’t be afraid to reach out.
It can be scary to put yourself out there, but once you’ve met some moms that you click with or a group that fits, plan a playdate! This could be at your home or at a nearby park. We’re all looking to get out and have a change of scenery. Don’t be afraid to set something up and see what happens. The popularity might surprise you!
It can take a while to really break into a new group in Albuquerque and meet some new mamas. There are many lifers here that have built in networks, but we also have a lot of recent arrivals. Be patient, try to have fun, and realize that you’ll get there!
Albuquerque has a thriving, welcoming, and active mom scene. So get out there, introduce yourself, and start having some fun!
