When my daughter hit her first birthday, it was like a switch flipped. A lot seemed to change right around the year mark. She decided she was done nursing, began walking, dropped the morning nap, etc. As she continued to become more active, we were really itching for something more to do with our days. We had our Lovelace Women’s Hospital new parent support group, but the once-a-week visit just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Right around this time, I was invited to a play date at a park hosted by a local MOMS Club chapter. I was intrigued, but skeptical.
See, I never pictured myself as a stay-at-home-mom before my daughter was born, let alone a member of a mommy “club.”
I had a really stereotypical notion of what these stay-at-home moms were like. Always put together, manicured, pedicured, designer purses, Starbucks lattes in hand. It’s embarrassing to admit I ever thought this way, but I did! So, going into this MOMS Club event, I fully expected to be the loner weirdo girl who just couldn’t cut it in a club full of “cool moms.”
The Truth Is…
Turns out, MOMS Club is full of moms just like me! And also lots of moms not at all like me! None of that matters, though, because everyone is friendly, kind, and welcoming. I actually kinda love them all. That first day, my daughter had a chance to socialize, play and burn off some energy with other kids her age. It gave me a chance to meet other moms that lived nearby. Ultimately, I ended up sticking around and becoming a member of the MOMS Club chapter in my area. It was one of the best decisions I could have made.
Before joining the MOMS Club, I often felt isolated in my struggle to adjust to being a parent. Once I finally found MOMS Club, it changed everything for me. I finally had a group of women I could relate to, and who were fun to be around! It gives my children and I the company we both need. It also gets us out of the house a lot more often, and offers me with both physical and emotional parenting support. When I brought my newborn son home from the hospital, the girls set up a schedule to deliver meals to my family. I didn’t have to cook for over a month – blissful!
More About MOMS Club
In my chapter, we have a “planning play date” each month. We sit down to plan out the following month’s calendar, and members host activities for the club. Activities include anything from simple play dates, to field trips, to mom’s night out.
MOMS Club has chapters all over. You can find the chapter nearest you by visiting their website, www.momsclub.org. The club is designed for moms that stay at home either part time or full time, and are seeking support and friendship from other moms in their area. If you are a mom looking for great friendships and a strong support system, I recommend MOMS Club with the highest regards!
