Jenny Lloyd-Strovas: Albuquerque Moms Blog

Albuquerque

My family and I moved to the East Mountains of Albuquerque about 3 years ago. I was excited about the move and living in a state with access to public land (Texas is about 96% privately owned). But I was intimidated by the process of having to find a new community. As moms, it can be hard to get out there and meet new people with the demands of nap schedules, school, and the never-ending list of errands. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the East Mountain and Albuquerque communities.

People immediately invited us to their homes for dinner, women I barely knew threw me a baby shower, and I developed instant friendships in a small group. To be honest, I’ve never integrated into a new community so quickly or felt so welcome and loved. I love New Mexico! The people are warm, welcoming, and caring. And I’m so happy that we chose to move to the Albuquerque area!

And y’all won’t believe this. But even though I was born and raised in Texas, my dad was born and raised right here in Albuquerque. He even attended school in the East Mountains. I’m starting to think that I’m just coming back to my roots! I jokingly refer to our family as Tex-Mex. And we have the burrito building, green chili roasting skills to prove it!

Mom

I am a mom of two little boys, 6 and 2 years old. They are spunky, adventurous, sassy, and most days, sweet! The common thread that knits our family together is nature. I am a biologist. My husband is a herpetologist at heart. And from the first day my boys entered this world, they had a strong desire to be outside. (Actually, they had a severe case of colic that lasted a full 12 months. And the only thing that could sooth them was being in nature. Ha! You can call it biophilia, or a connection to God. But I firmly believe we were meant to be in and connected with nature!)

We love hiking, biking, climbing, camping, and even working in the garden together as a family. When we’re not outside together, I enjoy cooking with my oldest son, building towers with my youngest, and cuddling up on the coach with both to watch Despicable Me.

Blog

I have a blog on my website where I write about what I know best: nature and helping parents connect their children to nature. This could include anything from outdoor activities for kids to why playing in the dirt can be beneficial for our kids’ health. For Albuquerque Moms Blog, I plan on sticking to what I know. Just making the content more local for us Albuquerque mamas! Maybe we can explore new trails together (that are kid friendly, of course!). We could even learn some of the desert’s secrets that make it so beautiful. I’m excited for the opportunity to blog for Albuquerque Moms Blog. And I would love to write posts based on your questions! Remember, no question is stupid! I’d love to connect with you!
