Albuquerque

I moved to Albuquerque two weeks after I married my husband, an Albuquerque native, and never imagined that I’d become a mom here. I never intended to live here this long, but here I am, almost 11 years later, and I love it.

There’s so much to love about Albuquerque–the mostly mild winters! Frequent sunshine! Wonderful places for children to play, learn and explore! I really love that from just about anywhere, I can see gorgeous mountains, clouds, and amazing plant life. Albuquerque is such a beautiful place.

Moms

When I became a mom, it surprised me how adding a person to our family could actually make me feel isolated, rather than more connected. My husband worked long hours as a nurse, so it was often just me and my daughter. I didn’t realize how draining it can be to pour yourself into another human, even your own darling human! You can only dress up that baby so many times before the newness starts to wear off. πŸ˜‰

I felt quite alone in this huge new part of my life, and was anxious to make some momma friends. A new friend invited me to her MOPs group, and I felt as though I’d come home. There were sweet friends feeling many of the things I was feeling, yummy food, childcare for the kiddos so we could eat without thinking of anyone else for once, and thoughtful mentor moms who had already gone through this phase with their own children. I realized that motherhood didn’t have to be isolating, which was such a relief! I became addicted to finding and making momma friends!

Blog

I started blogging about a year after I moved to Albuquerque, almost as soon as I discovered that they existed.  Still feeling pretty lonely and homesick from moving so far away from my people in Michigan, I felt like blogging was a fun way to stay in touch with them and meet new friends from other places. I wrote regularly on that blog for about 6 years until a few months after my oldest was born, when I was in the middle of feeling all the feels. When it came time to renew my domain name, I just didn’t! I had a minor lapse in judgement and just let it go. Six years of my writing was gone, and I have missed the community I’d been a part of for so many years. (Thank God for Instagram, amIright?)

I’m thrilled to be contributing to Albuquerque Moms Blog. I’m happy to write about things that are so meaningful to me–Albuquerque moms and kids!
