Hello fellow mamas! My name’s Katie and I am blessed to be a new contributor for Albuquerque Moms Blog. I cannot wait to share my journey as a new mom and get to know you all!
I grew up in Central California. Trips to the beach, green everywhere, and rain in the winter rather than summer. In 2009 I came to Albuquerque to attend UNM. Back home I had family and friends but here I had nothing. So of course I spent my first semester miserable and longing to leave.
People have said Albuquerque is the Land of Entrapment and maybe that’s true.
I know so many people, including my husband, that have tried to leave only to return again. It’s a great big mystery. And it’s one I’m grateful for a million times over. Throughout the rest of college I learned to see beauty in the desert landscape and slower pace of life. My husband and I have created a home with family, friends, and a church that we love. I came to Albuquerque counting the days until I could leave, but now it’s hard to imagine living anywhere else. (Except maybe London…)
My husband and I got married after college and both took teaching jobs at APS. We took the first few years to travel before welcoming our daughter in December of 2017. She was stubborn and active even before she was born.
If I’ve learned anything about being a mom it’s that I am not in control. We had a difficult pregnancy and struggled with breastfeeding before having to switch to formula. Through the tears and pain I have found immeasurable joy. My daughter’s infectious laugh and my husband’s unshakable support have carried me through the past six months of figuring out my new role as “mom.”
Since giving birth to my daughter I made the switch from elementary librarian to stay-at-home mom for a time. It’s not what I envisioned before this process began. But each day I am more and more grateful for the opportunity to watch my daughter grow and learn. Sometime in the future we are looking forward to growing our family through adoption, but for now I am pouring my heart into my little family of three.
Words are powerful. As someone who has always loved reading I’ve known this for a long time. But it is only recently that I began thinking of MY words as powerful. I began blogging randomly to share lessons and ideas. Once my daughter was born I was going to stop temporarily.
The idea to shake up my blog just popped into my head one day and wouldn’t leave. After some time I finally confessed to my husband that I wanted to start writing about motherhood. Sharing our stories is a powerful thing, and I found blogging a way to have something for me while encouraging others. In March I started Pages & Puddles, a blog focused on faith and motherhood.
My hope in starting the blog was to encourage other women to love themselves, their family, and the people around them well. That is what I hope to bring to Albuquerque Moms Blog.
I’m excited to share my story with you and hear yours as well! Share something about yourself in the comments below and feel free to reach out on Instagram. I can’t wait to meet you!
