Albuquerque

I was born in Texas and lived there until the age of fourteen when my family moved from the windy Texas Pandhandle to sunny Albuquerque. It was quite a culture shock for me as a young teenage girl. I didn’t know what red or green chile was and couldn’t understand why the enchiladas I ordered were spicy and not covered in Velveeta cheese. After college, I moved back to Texas. This time I made Dallas my home for three years.

I never thought I’d be coming back to the Albuquerque area. But my husband, Chris, got a job here. We’ve lived in the East Mountains for more than ten years, and I never get tired of waking up to the view of the gorgeous Sandia Mountains. I still say “ya’ll” a lot, but fancy myself a sort-of mountain hippy. I try (and fail) at brewing my own kombucha and convincing my husband to start up a goat yoga business (it’s a real thing). Hiking and mountain biking are activities I enjoy, even though I tend to end up in cactus. My less hippy side appreciates that I’m less than thirty minutes away from a big city with amazing restaurants and breweries and shopping.

Vivi and Haven

I have two daughters, Haven, age 8, and Vivienne, age 5. They are wild, mountain girls who could probably survive out in the wilderness on their own. They love playing outside and getting dirty. I mentioned my love of hiking and want to share that love with my daughters, so I trick them into going hiking with me by calling hikes “nature hunts.” We look for animal scat, animal tracks, and sometimes fossils. I’m also fond of travel, the outdoors, and eating. The more unusual food the better.

My biggest goal as a mom is that my girls feel loved for who they are. I love learning from other moms how they handle this incredible, awesome task of parenting we’ve been given.

Blog

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamed of two things: being a mom and writing. What a fabulous opportunity to be able to combine both! I’m excited to be a part of a blog that encourages mothers and promotes connection among us. I look forward to reading and sharing with other mothers and hopefully meeting some of you.
