Albuquerque Moms Blog :: Introducing Brianna Richards

Hey y’all! My name is Brianna, and I’m excited to be an Albuquerque Moms Blog contributor. I’m an Albuquerque native who loves our beautiful city and gorgeous state. I’m a Christian, wife, new mama, writer, and blogger. I love New Mexico chile (take that, Colorado!), trips to the zoo, and country music.

Albuquerque Moms Blog Introducing BriannaAlbuquerque

My New Mexican parents raised me right here in Albuquerque. My mom is also from Albuquerque, and my dad is from Roswell (which explains the occasional twang in my accent.)They chose to homeschool me and my brothers for most of my childhood, and I did dual-enrollment at CNM. We attend a large church but are determined to make it feel smaller by being involved in various ministries.

My favorite things about Albuquerque are the food and the weather.

New Mexican food is my absolute favorite, and nothing compares to Hatch green chile. I hate cold weather and snow, so this is the perfect place for me. My family lives here for the most part, and we are blessed to spend a lot of time together.

Moms

My husband and I met in college; I attended UNM and he went to NMSU. A mutual friend introduced us at a rival football game. We got married in 2013 at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, and we always knew we wanted kids. After a long struggle with infertility due to PCOS and other issues, we welcomed our sweet baby boy in December of 2017.

Though I wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember, motherhood hit me like a ton of bricks.

From an emergency C-section to struggling with breastfeeding, there were a few times in the early days that I thought, There’s no way I can do this. Fortunately, my husband is amazingly supportive, and our baby boy is a miracle.

After our son was born, I chose to leave my job and become a stay-at-home mom. It was a huge transition from the professional world to the stay-at-home-mom world, but there’s no place I’d rather be. The opportunity to raise my son is something I am extremely grateful for and try not to take for granted.

Blog

As a kid, I was a bookworm and always enjoyed writing. In 2012, I graduated from UNM with a double bachelor of arts in political science and journalism. I got to put my education to good use at my last job as a copyeditor, and am so glad for the opportunity to continue to do so here at Albuquerque Moms Blog. In addition to contributing here, I serve as editor-in-chief for Dove Love, Sigma Alpha Omega®’s national magazine, and write on my own blog.

Albuquerque Moms Blog offered me encouragement and laughter when I desperately needed it as a brand-new mom. It’s my hope to offer the same encouragement as I share my experiences (both with infertility and being a new mama) with other women in our community. And hopefully I can make you laugh along the way!
