Foster Care Supply Drive | June 3rd

0

Partner with Albuquerque Moms Blog for a supply drive to provide CYFD’s requested items for foster children awaiting placement. Together we can make Albuquerque a better place for children.

Deliver items for the supply drive to Vista del Norte Park on Saturday, June 3 from 9:30-11:00 a.m.

The unfortunate plight of many children in Albuquerque is that they don’t have a safe home. In many cases, a child needs to be removed from their home in the middle of the night.  When this happens, the child waits in the social worker’s office until a foster family is found.

The children sleep on blankets on the floor. In an office. Not much of a comforting environment. There are times when this temporary situation can last for 18 hours.

Although we can’t take away the pain and trauma of the kids who have just been removed from a harmful situation, we can give them a more comforting and homey environment while they wait for their foster family placement.

This is exactly what Bernalillo County CYFD is doing.

Margaret works with the CYFD, and her love of these displaced children is contagious.  Originally, there were plans to construct a home-like location for children waiting for a foster home, but funding fell through.  Instead, she is converting an office suite into a relaxing and homey environment for these kids.

This child life suite will be completed early summer! Once finished, it will have a kitchen with a stocked pantry; a hangout area with books, educational toys, and a TV; a tranquil meditation room (especially geared toward older children); a fun gaming room; and a homework room/rest room furnished with cots and cribs.

Albuquerque Moms Blog is so excited to partner with CYFD to stock this suite with educational toys, books, and homework supplies!

But we need your help!

Sadly, a classroom environment may be the only stable environment these kids know.  So let’s try and re-create the best classroom we can!

There’s not always something tangible we can help with, but right now there is.

Please join us at Vista del Norte Park (Vista del Norte & Osuna) on Saturday, June 3rd any time between 9:30-11:00 a.m. to drop off these necessary supplies.

We can’t wait to take all the supplies over to Margaret at CYFD and fill up their shelves!
