Dressing Up for Date Night

No two words can put a spring in my step quite like the words Date Night.  A glorious night with no kids, good food, maybe a cocktail or two, quality time with my husband, and an outfit that I could never wear around the house.

I don’t know about you but I love getting dressed up for date night.

There is something fun about putting on a dress and heels and taking the time to do my hair and makeup for a special night out with my husband.  I have found, however, that there are two things that hold me back from dressing up for date night.  First, we live in a casual city and second, I have not bought a dress (or heels) in a number of years.

Let’s face it; Albuquerque is amazing in so many ways but it isn’t exactly the fashion capital of anything.  Here in the Q, dressing up almost always means jeans and even fancy restaurants boast at least one person in a baseball cap.  So, in such a casual city, why on earth would a gal want to get dressed up?  Well, why not?  It’s date night, ladies!  What better time to throw on a dress and some heels and get a little fancy.  Yes, people might stare but that’s ok.  Yes, you might be sitting next to the man with the hat but that’s ok.  Yes, we live in a casual city but life just too darn fleeting to spend it dressing down for date night.

Dressing Up for Date NightWhen was the last time you bought a dress?  Heels?  Make up?  Jewelry?  If you know date night is coming, especially a special occasion date, maybe it’s time to go shopping for something new and fabulous.  Look for something that you feel great in and also something that is comfortable.  If you feel good, you will look good.

Not sure where to shop?  Not to worry, here is a list of some local places to look for the perfect date night outfit.

Strive  This place has great every day outfits as well as some fun dresses that can easily be dressed up or down.

2 Time Couture Be sure to check out this sweet little consignment store near downtown.

Lilly Barrack  Check out their beautiful jewelry and add a little sparkle to your date night.

Also, be sure to check out the open air shops at ABQ Uptown.

If money is tight or you just don’t feel like spending on something that you won’t be wearing every day, try shopping in a friends closet!  Chances are your friend will be flattered that you thought of her and you will get some adult conversation time while your kids play.  It’s a win-win-win!

Whether you dress up or down for date night, don’t forget that the most important thing is to take time to connect with and enjoy your spouse.  Although, a little lipstick and a pair of heels never hurt anyone!

Thanks Jess. Not being from Albuquerque, newbie here, this helps a mom out for shopping. 🙂
