Behold the Mini Minecraft Forest!
Spring still hasn’t officially sprung in New Mexico this year…it’s May and it’s still cold sometimes, and windy. I enjoy gardening, but my peach tree already froze once this year, so I don’t care to risk my plants going outside for a while. When gardening time comes, I’ll refer to Amanda’s gardening resource post. But for the time being, below is a fun and simple Mini Minecraft Forest project my son and I undertook recently. It’s a great way to squelch that hankering to use your green thumb without regard for the forecast.
Large decorative planter
Small-to-medium sized indoor house plants of your choice
A miniature house (We bought a $5 hamster house from Petsmart. You can even use an aquarium castle if you like.)
Small Minecraft figures
Sand, small pebbles or crusher fine
Now…Create Your Mini Minecraft Forest!
Line the bottom of your planter with rocks. This allows for natural aeration and water seepage.
Pour in the potting soil…fill soil to about 2 inches from the top and add water to moisten the soil
Dig holes around the outside of your planter and insert your plants
Pour potting soil over the roots and pat down, about ½ inch from the top of the planter, and water until damp
Use sand/pebbles/crusher fine to create a walkway to where you will place your house
Place your mini house at the end of the pathway, and add your Minecraft figures
