6 Simple Ways to Revive Your Mood on a “Blah” Mom Day

Staying home with my kids has been an absolute gift. But it’s also one of the toughest jobs ever. Many days are great – my kids behave, I feel productive and we enjoy each others’ company. However, for every one of those great days, there are at least as many not-so-great days. Moms, I know you feel me! Maybe it’s sick kids. Maybe it’s the terrible twos rearing their ugly head. Maybe you’re just PMS-ing. I’m a pretty positive person, but motherhood is hard, and we all have our days. When my mood is suffering, I have a few go-to pick-me-ups. These will almost always turn my frown upside-down, or at least soften it a bit, even on my worst days!

6 Simple Ways to Revive Your Mood on a "Blah" Mom DayWash Those Worries Away

Seems a bit obvious, but taking a shower and dressing in real clothes always helps my mood. Even if I’m not going anywhere, it feels nice to get cleaned up. When my kids were babies, I’d bring them into the bathroom with me and buckle them into the rocker. Now that they’re older, they either shower with me, or I set them up with a show/movie/nap before I hop in. Pro tip: My 19-month-old son is clumsy in the shower, so I keep his socks on, which prevents him from slipping and falling.

Shake it Off

Spontaneous dance parties are a thing at my house. We blast our favorite tunes and dance until we drop. Both my kids LOVE this, and the music plus the endorphins always help to boost my spirits when I’m feeling a little “blah.”

Walk it Out

If at all possible, get outside! Soak in some sunshine and go for a walk/jog/ride. I intentionally have multiple options for getting exercise with kids in tow. Whether it’s a bike ride with the trailer attachment, a stroll to the park with our wagon, or a brisk walk with the double jogger, I know I’ll feel better once my heart gets pumping. And yes, when desperate, I do still stick my four-year-old in the stroller!

Get Glam

Spending a few minutes doing my hair and makeup and putting on a piece of jewelry or two makes me feel pretty and instantly boosts my mood. Even if the only people that will see me are my kids and the Costco employees, it’s well worth the effort.

Make Things Cozy

My mood is most definitely linked to the cleanliness of my home. Not everyone’s mood is affected by messes, and I SO wish I could say mine wasn’t… But I totally hate a messy house! When my house is a disaster, I start by making my bed and lighting a few candles. It always works! Instant cozy happiness.

Treat Yourself

Sometimes, I can feel myself trying so hard to turn things around, knowing deep down that the day is just destined to be a bust. In cases like this, I sometimes choose to just let it go. I ignore the mess, and do at-home pedicures with my daughter instead. Or, we escape the house and our stinky moods entirely and make a visit to Starbucks. Coffee for mama, cake pops for kiddos. Sometimes we make random pit stops for ice cream. Treats make everything better!

Next time you’re feeling beat down, exhausted, or just have a case of the Mondays, do something about it! It may not turn your day around entirely, but little things can make a big difference. Kick that bad mood, and keep on keepin’ on, mamas!
