My husband and I have come a long way when it comes to our matching shirts. It use to only be my idea, and he just kind of went along with it. I think he only wore my shirts because I tried to be that Pinterest DIYer. But I finally came to my senses and realized I am not that crafty. Eventually my love for the idea of matching shirts fizzled.
That is until they became my husband’s idea. But he’s not much of a DIYer himself. He prefers others to be the crafty DIYers. So he uses the internet or whatever we already have in our closets. We are that couple and that family. So we wanted to share with you five reasons why you should try matching shirts too.
1. Matching Shirts Are Fun
I mean why else would you want to do something? It’s exciting to walk around and have people stare at us. Either because our shirts are awesome or because we are “that” couple/family. When it comes to big vacations, it’s also nice to know that we belong to a group. My kids feel special as if we are V.I.P when we really aren’t.
2. Anytime or Anywhere Shirts
There doesn’t have to be a specific time for you to wear matching shirts. They aren’t just for vacations or holidays. If you want, you could wear them on a Tuesday to Costco. We haven’t done that yet, but I’m sure it’s coming. We wore our shirts from a previous occasion to a BBQ this summer. My husband joked it was because he didn’t want to lose me at the BBQ. Mind you there were less than 10 people there.
3. Budget Friendly
You don’t have to break the bank when it comes to matching shirts. Yes, there are so many awesome ideas “on the line.” (Did you get my pun? The Internship?) But that doesn’t mean you need to break the bank. My husband sometimes asks me what I’m wearing and plays off of that. So sometimes we wear the same colored shirts or maybe wear similar color tones. We recently stepped up matching our shoes with similar colors. It’s amazing what you can find in your closet to make a matching outfit.
4. Matching Shirts Involve Family
Matching shirts don’t just have to be between two people. Add the kids, grandparents, even your neighbors. It’s fun to be part of a group. Almost every year one of my aunts sends us an email telling us about her idea for our annual shirts. And every year we order a shirt. Most of the time we don’t even get to see each other, but it’s the idea. The idea that we are all still connected. So that when we do get together, best believe we all have shirts that pretty much say we are family. As you can tell our family is big, but this doesn’t even scratch the surface.
5. Matching Shirts as Anniversary Gifts
My husband and I have turned our love for matching shirts into a gift. Instead of trying to figure out what to get each other, we decided to do matching shirts. We take turns every anniversary picking out the shirts. This year was my year. Since we were going to Disney and we went a week after our anniversary, I decided to do Disney-themed. Our collection seems to be growing and we basically wear them on a daily basis even without each other.
Bonus Reason
Every family or couple has their own ways of celebrating life events. For us being able to create memories with matching shirts is what we do. It creates excitement and a sense of belonging. In a lot of ways it unifies us together. Whether the shirts are for my husband and I or for the entire family, it’s nice to know that somewhere across the U.S another family member has the exact custom, matching shirt.
