It’s Fall, Y’all! Simple Fall Home Decorating Ideas

0

Fall is by far my favorite season in Albuquerque. The temperatures are a perfect warm in the afternoon, cold in the morning, there’s no wind like in Spring, and the leaves all turn colors.

I love to decorate and it’s just the beginning of such a special festive end to the year. The pumpkins generally come out in early September around here. (Just like Christmas goes up before Thanksgiving, but we’ll get to that later.)

Since our little one became mobile, I have had to sort of rethink and simplify a lot of my decorating. Trinkets and treasures that are likely to get broken/be dangerous are left in the boxes for later. I also have loved using a more neutral color palette with all of the toys being such bright colors. It helps bring a sort of calm to the chaos and mess that is a 2-year-old boy.

Here are a few ideas for your Fall decorating fun this year!

Buffalo Check – I LOVE this Buffalo check rug and runner I found at Hobby Lobby. Combined with some pumpkins, it is so festive – right out of the pumpkin patch! Also, switch out your pumpkins for trees or snowmen and it can take you right through Christmas! As a busy mom, I am all about multi-purpose décor! Bonus tip – use the runner somewhere other than the dining table where it will likely get ruined. Also, if your little one is at the stage of grabbing onto everything, fold the ends under so nothing hangs and it looks just as cute!

Pumpkin stems – These little guys were sold in the wreath building section. I simply bent the pick so they would sit flat, but you could also snip it off with wire cutters!  This is a great budget trick as these generally cost a little less than stand alone pumpkins.

Pumpkins everywhere – Skip the rest and just bring out some pumpkins! Craft or real they give a festive look without having to think to hard about it! Just fill a basket or pile some real ones up on your porch, no need to spend all sorts of time arranging special and breakable figurines!

bale and pumpkin

Pine shavings from your local feed store – Totally have to give my husband the credit here, but instead of paying for the straw bales at the craft store, go to a local feed store and get bales there for a lot cheaper! These look so cute on a front porch with some pumpkins piled up next to them.

Happy decorating and happy fall, mamas!
