Cleaning Hacks for Busy Moms

Cleaning is a necessary evil. But it doesn’t have to be a thorn in your side. When it comes to housework I am all about efficiency.

Here are my favorite time-saving cleaning tips.

Bathroom

Moms know how important and fun bath time is for kids! But, I could never get my tub to shine. I tried every product I could, and I was still disappointed in the final result. A little elbow grease goes a long way, but so does this magic solution. Use Dawn dish soap and vinegar to clean your tub. I was skeptical too, but I figured, if it can cut grease, surely it can clean a bathtub. I was super impressed with the results. Take 16 ounces of white vinegar and mix it with 8 ounces of Dawn. Pour it in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray your tub and let it soak for an hour.  Then take a soft scrub brush or sponge and gently wash the surface. Lastly, rinse your tub with warm water. No more scrubbing! I love saving time and energy with a fast way to clean the tub.

If your shower head has hard water build up, place white vinegar in a plastic bag and tie it around the shower head with a rubber band. Leave the bag on overnight to soak. It really washes away the grime.

For hard water stains in the toilet, you can buy a special pumice stick. Use the pumice to very gently scrap away the stain. Finish the job by cleaning with a toilet brush and toilet cleaner.

Baseboards

Baseboards look so pretty . . . when they’re clean. Here’s a great task that your kids can actually do! Give them a dryer sheet and let them wipe down the baseboards. It works perfectly.

You can also use a dryer sheet for dirty pots and pans. Soak your pans in dish soap and water. Now throw in a dryer sheet and let it soak. This will loosen the food particles and make cleaning a breeze.

There is a little trick for cleaning cast iron pans. Cut a potato in half and rub the potato on the pan along with some coarse salt and rinse well. This will dissolve the mess and save you lots of time.

My cookie sheets looked black until I discovered this trick. I take ¼ cup of baking soda and a few spoons of hydrogen peroxide and mix it into a paste. Rub the paste on your cookie sheets and after an hour you can easily wipe away the mess.

Lemon Magic

Another one of my favorite cleaning products is lemon oil. Pour some lemon oil on a soft cloth and use it to shine your faucets. Wipe off the extra oil with a clean cloth. If you have a wood cutting board you can rub a lemon and salt on it to quickly disinfectant it.

Hopefully these tips will let you free up some of your precious time too!
