I come from a family of sweaters. We are the kind of people who sweat often, a lot and in all environments (yes, even in cold weather!) By the time I was in college, I was desperate for a solution. I mean, I finally wanted to go on dates (you could say I was a late bloomer). I found the strongest deodorant possible. It was chock full of aluminum and was like an a-bomb on my pits. I’m fairly certain I still have chemical burns from it.
In any case, my sweating issue became less of a problem after that but then I started hearing that aluminum led to dementia or Alzheimer’s or turned you into a zombie. It sounded bad. Cue search of all natural, won’t-kill-you antiperspirant and that led me to some very icky smelling solutions (I’m looking at you Tom’s). Thankfully, my sister, Annie, is fabulous at crafting, DIYs and in general being awesome. Oh and she also has the sweating problem. So today, I’m sharing with you Annie’s all natural, pleasant smelling, sweat busting, super easy DIY deodorant. Enjoy!
DIY Deodorant
Ingredients:
1/2 cup coconut oil (100g)
1/4 cup baking soda (58g)
1/4 cup arrowroot powder (32g)
1 1/2 oz beeswax (organic, cosmetic grade, white or yellow)
1/4 tsp essential oil* (approximately)
Supplies:
Deodorant stick container (You can wash out your old ones or buy them here. Use containers that have a solid bottom to avoid leakage.)
Directions:
Melt beeswax on stovetop on low heat.
Melt in coconut oil. Mix in baking soda, arrowroot powder and your choice of essential oil. Remove from stovetop.
Allow mixture to cool a couple of minutes until slightly thickened. Stir mixture once more and pour into prepared deodorant stick containers.
Allow deodorant to completely cool and cap.
*Choose the essential oil of your choice. Lavender is the most popular as it is a very pleasant and mild scent. Combine a blend of orange, lime and grapefruit essential oil for a citrus scent. For the man in your life, try lime, tea tree, ylang ylang, eucalyptus or sandalwood. As the essential oil is utilized for scent and not therapeutically, I was not picky with where to purchase. My local Sprouts or Whole Foods carries many popular essential oils in the health section.
Yield: 2 sticks

Can’t wait to try it! Where do you buy the beeswax? (oh, and talk about sweating, even my nose sweats!)
