Top 5 Reasons I Love ABQ

0

Love My City’ is the newest campaign by the National League of Cities to create a more positive atmosphere around us and it is now here in Albuquerque! When I first saw this campaign was coming to ABQ, I was so excited! I love to talk about what I love about living here. Frequently, I tell my friends and family that I think it is one of the most underrated cities in America. I am so happy to see everyone talking about what is truly amazing about this city! I have to admit, when I moved to Albuquerque 15 years ago, I wasn’t so sure of it. My skin was a mess for the first year. No matter how much water I drank, I was always thirsty. And what the heck is this “red or green or Christmas” question I am always being asked???

After the initial shock wore off, I was sold! There are so many wonderful things about our city!

Reason #1 I Love ABQ

We still get all of the seasons, just not the extremes.

The winter is mild with just a bit of snow, but not too much. The summers are warm, but not uncomfortable due to the dry heat. Spring can be a little windy, but the temperatures are amazing and the blooms are delightful. Skies are filled with hot air balloons and the beautiful weather in the fall makes it my absolute favorite time of year here.

Reason #2 I Love ABQ

Very few mosquitoes, ticks, and other menacing bugs.

Most of the city doesn’t have many menaces unless you are close to the river. Mosquitoes, ticks, and other water loving bugs stay away since we live in a desert. I love that I don’t have to worry about having bug spray with me!

Reason #3 I Love ABQ

Tons of outdoor activities.

It is so easy to be outside here partly due to the amazing weather, but also because we have the majestic Sandia Mountains almost literally in our backyards! Being outside has been shown to be good for our health  and well-being. Here in our wonderful city we can ski, hike, bike, raft, or climb through the year and enjoy the amazing sunshine almost every day!

Reason #4 I Love ABQ

Fun events that are not super pricey.

We have so many great options for inexpensive ways to learn and have fun with our kids here in ABQ. There is a great variety of museums including Explora, the Natural History Museum, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, and the Albuquerque Museum. We also have fun entertaining options including the ABQ Biopark, Cliffs, and Hinkle. Fun sporting events happen all year long (again for reasonable prices)! You can go to watch the Isotopes or the New Mexico United, or take a trip to UNM to watch any of the college sports. The city parks here are plentiful and have a lot to offer. Lastly, we can’t forget about our Balloon Fiesta! It is coming up in October and is one of my favorite times of year here. You can buy a ticket for $10 and will maybe even get to help out one of the balloon crews!

Reason #5 I Love ABQ

It’s not too big and not too small.

Yes we have traffic at times, and yes, some places can get crowded. But here in Albuquerque, you don’t have big city traffic jams. You don’t have wait in line for an hour to get into museums or amusement parks. There are so many things to do without the crowds and congestion of a big city. The size of Albuquerque is just right!

I could go on for quite a while about other things I love about this city, these are just a few! What do you LOVE about our city?
