BioPark Beginnings :: Lions, Tigers, and Preschoolers…Oh My!

This post is brought to you by the ABQ BioPark. We at Albuquerque Moms Blog choose to work with businesses and organizations we feel bring value to our readers.

If you’re native to New Mexico like me, you grew up going to the ABQ BioPark Zoo. I would bring my quarters to buy the food to feed to the huge fish in the pond, pray my mom would let me get an ice cream cone, and hope we would hear the lion roar.

Now that I am a mom, it’s become tradition for my girls and I to visit the zoo and maybe buy an ice cream cone . . . or two. Starting in September, we began attending the ABQ Biopark Beginnings class.

BioPark Beginnings

For a very affordable price, you and your little one between 3-6 years of age can choose between a 6 or 12 week preschool class at the zoo. If you are already a member of the ABQ Biopark, you will receive a 10% discount towards the class.

Your little one will get 2 1/2 hours of hands-on learning, songs, crafts, and visits to the BioPark’s exhibits. The legendary Ms. Ann will be your teacher for the full 12 weeks. She is gifted at teaching little ones all about the animals that live in the ABQ BioPark.

Inside the Classroom

The girls and I walked into the classroom and were greeted by bright color tubes on the floor. There were several hands on learning stations and lots of pictures on the walls depicting the animal we were learning about that day. Activities are designed for ages 3-6. And they are facilitated with active parent participation. Classes alternate weekly between the Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden, or Tingley Beach.

Activities

Within the classroom, there are several stations that provide an activity for you and your child to do together. My girls gravitated towards the magnetic animals and the book corner. On this day, we were learning about meerkats and the tunnels they build.

After classroom time, we made our way out to the exhibit that houses the animal we studied that day. We always leave with a creative craft, good memories, and a deeper appreciation for the animals that call the ABQ Biopark their home.

Registration for the 2020 Spring Session of BioPark Beginnings is NOW OPEN. For more information about the class, schedule, and registration, check out the BioPark’s website.
