Looking for a fun (and low-cost!) summer activity for you and the kids? Well, Albuquerque Academy wants your family to have fun exploring Albuquerque and learn more about their school through the Hunt for Academy Scavenger Hunt.

Academy is a private, coeducational, college preparatory school serving middle school and high school students in grades 6 through 12.

Here are the rules for the scavenger hunt: The hunt runs from July 13 through 28. To enter, take a photo of each completed item and post it on your Instagram or Facebook. The photos can be posted as a single gallery or individually. Make sure to tag Albuquerque Moms Blog (@abqmomsblog) and Albuquerque Academy (@albacademy) and use the hashtag #HuntforAcademy, so we can see your entries. You must also be following Albuquerque Academy to be eligible to win. Each photo posted of you successfully completing a task is an entry to win the grand prize, so complete and post as many as you can before July 28. One lucky family will win the grand prize:

A Swag Bag filled with Academy Gear, $50 gift card to Dion’s, & $50 gift card to Bookworks.

Where can you find a bear in Albuquerque? (Be creative and be safe!)

Academy sixth and seventh graders go on camping trips in our 270 acres of wilderness in Bear Canyon in northeast Albuquerque. Older students take backcountry wilderness backpacking, mountain biking, and river trips. Learn more about the Academy experiential education program.

Find the Houston Astros logo on a hat or a jersey.

Did you know that Alex Bregman, Academy Class of 2012, is the third baseman for the Astros? He was part of the 2017 World Series championship team. Alex won a state championship and set state records while playing for the Academy Chargers.

Create a work of art. What kind of materials do you like best — paint, crayons, chalk? Have fun, and show us what you made.

Our visual arts teachers are working artists, and we believe the skills of art making can be taught to anyone. Academy student artwork received 34 Scholastic Gold Keys in 2019. See some student portfolios here

Are you getting hungry? Stop at Dion’s for lunch or a snack.

Not only is Dion’s an Albuquerque institution, it’s also headed by Mark Herman, Albuquerque Academy Class of 1987. We love having one right across the street from our school.

Summer is a great time to go on an adventure with a book. Find a book about pirates… and then read it!

Connor White, Academy Class of 2005, and his partner Annabeth Bondor-Stone are the authors of a three-book series about a pirate named Shivers. The series, for grades 3-5, starts with Shivers! The Pirate Who’s Afraid of Everything.

Whip up a batch of Munch Pudding recipe — our favorite dessert.

Academy alumni still talk about Munch Pudding, and our students are excited when it’s on the lunch menu. Here is the original recipe:

Chocolate Munch Pudding

  • 3½ c. milk
  • 8 oz. chocolate pudding mixture
  • 8 oz. whipped topping
  • 6 oz. Oreo cookie pieces
  •

1. Gradually add pudding mixture to milk; blend on low speed until pudding starts to thicken. Blend on medium speed 2-3 minutes.

2. Chill pudding in bowl overnight; cover top of pudding with plastic wrap to keep it from drying out.

3. The next day: fold whipped topping and Oreo pieces into pudding, and enjoy!

(For a vanilla variation, substitute the same amount of vanilla pudding mixture and vanilla wafers)

Visit Albuquerque Academy! Check out the campus map here. Pick up a bookmark from our admissions office and then stroll along the path.

The Academy is located on a 312-acre campus. The beautiful, shady path connects grades 6 and 7 on the west campus and grades 8-12 on the east campus. The community is welcome to walk on our trails on the mesa, and our facilities like the auditorium and swimming pool are often used by community groups. During the school year (during school hours), the developed area of campus is reserved for students and faculty. Be sure to finish your visit before sunset when our gates are locked. Please use the main gate on Wyoming & Barstow.
