For Weary Moms: What You Do Matters

1

This is for all the weary moms:

I don’t know about you all but I am tired.  Not a sleep deprived, I need to get some sleep tired, but more of a, these children are so hard right now and my body is exhausted kind of tired.

Anyone else?

Whether you have one child or fifteen, teenagers or infants, doing what we do – being mom – is exhausting.  It drains us in every way possible and then drains us some more.  The work we do is challenging, messy, and emotional and lately, I feel it.  I feel the weariness sinking in.

For Weary Moms: What You Do MattersDo you feel it too?

Here’s the thing.  The struggle is real but the fight is absolutely worth fighting.  The work you do is hard, yes, but it is necessary and good.  When you remind your child yet again to clean up his room, you are teaching him to respect his belongings.  When you lovingly intervene in a fight between your kids, you have the opportunity to teach kindness, respect, and forgiveness.  When you yell at them in a moment of anger or frustration, you have the opportunity to model repentance. When you kick yet another lego across the room, well, you just need to laugh at that.  Or curse.  Or walk away.  When you clean your home one more time, you are creating a lovely space for your people to live, thrive, and be loved.

I know it feels like you will never sleep again.  You will.

I know it feels like you will be wiping behinds forever.  You won’t.

I know it feels like your kids are not learning.  They are.

I know it feels like what you do doesn’t matter.  It does.

Moms – Keep fighting the good fight.

What you do matters.
