Albuquerque Moms Blog :: Introducing Lynne Robbins

2

Hello, everyone!  My name is Lynne Robbins, and I’ve lived in Albuquerque for twelve years.

Albuquerque Moms Blog Welcome

Albuquerque

I grew up in Ohio, and although I liked it, I wanted to try out other parts of the country, so I went to college and law school on the East Coast. I met my Midwestern husband on the East Coast, too. After getting married, we moved to Indiana and then here to New Mexico.

I saw Albuquerque for the first time when my husband and I drove through the mountain pass to move here.

Yes, that’s right, I moved here without visiting first. It’s a good thing I love it!

As a Midwesterner, I grew up with lots of trees and grass. Now I love the spare beauty of the high desert—the Midwest looks too lush–and we’ve even xeriscaped our front yard. I also love mountains, lots of sunlight, and being able to get almost anywhere in Albuquerque in thirty minutes. (Because I lived outside Boston for four years, I appreciate avoiding traffic.)

I was pregnant on that first drive into Albuquerque, and all three of my children have been born here. My oldest son is 12, my daughter is 10, and my younger son is almost 5. They take mountains for granted and get very excited to see ponds when we take road trips back to the Midwest.

Moms

Albuquerque has been a fantastic place for us to raise kids, even though we miss our families. For free fun, there are lots of city parks, and we have an outstanding library system. For the price of a Biopark membership, you can go to the Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden, and Tingley Beach as often as you want. The sun and mild winters mean that it’s possible to take kids there even on many winter days.

Finding a community of moms here in Albuquerque has been a huge help to me. I’ve met moms at church, at a local MOPS group, and at my kids’ school.

Blog

I’ve always loved stories, but I didn’t plan to be a writer. I majored in history and attended law school.

When my kids were born, I took time off from practicing law. I wanted to keep my writing skills sharp, so I started writing about my experiences as a mom.

I also started writing children’s books. As it happens, along with mountains and sunlight, Albuquerque has a lot of authors and a very active chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, so it’s been a great place to learn.

I am honored and excited to be a part of this blog, helping build the kind of community of moms that has helped me so much.
