Is Flying Star Cafe for moms?

Are you a mom who wants to eat smart or one who likes to indulge? Either way Flying Star Cafe caters to you.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Flying Star Cafe and check out their menu.  Always a fan of this local restaurant, I enjoyed the opportunity to take my boys on a date and find out the best way to eat at Flying Star as a Mom. I chose the Flying Star Cafe on Paseo and Wyoming for lunch. We got there at 11 and it had a good lunch time rush!  Just goes to show everyone loves Flying Star.

Eating responsibly and deliciously, at Flying Star, I found out you can do both. Flying Star takes pride in their brand— serving, cooking, baking and doing their best to provide natural, organic wholesome products. With their menu that includes  Gluten Free, Organic & Natural, and  Vegan Options it’s no wonder this place is busy with a dynamic group of people.  Did you know that they use unrefined Zulka Sugar, rBST Free dairy, Boulder organic ice cream and their bacon…THEIR BACON is NATURAL CHOICE® uncured bacon with no preservatives and no added msg. The list goes on, click here to get a deeper inside look of their select ingredients of what they serve and why it’s important.

Flying Star 3Ordering for your kiddos, no matter the location, I would recommend the homemade, natural, hormone free chicken strips.  Flying Star thinks outside the box, literally, with this dish, breading your chicken to order! My husband and I have been ordering them for awhile before realizing they were actually on the kids menu. You get a generous amount of strips and a basket full of fries. Add a side of their own wholesome, homemade ranch dressing and it makes for a great meal for you or your kids. I like to split the strips with one of my kids so we have a little extra room in our tummies for dessert. And there are so many great desserts to choose from! I love the bread pudding or key lime pie and my kids enjoy splitting the sugar cookies with lemon icing. Speaking of cookies, they provide a complimentary vegan, gluten free kid’s cookie.

Flying Star on Rio Grande is definitely my favorite.  The restaurant itself is surrounded by large trees and they have a lovely patio or what they call a “petio“.  Flying Star Cafe is pet friendly providing water, tie ups and complimentary doggy treat. How awesome is it that Addy at Flying Star 2you can bring  the whole “family”?!  You can keep warm in winter by the huge fireplace and there’s plenty of shade during the summer.  The Rio Grande restaurant is smaller than the one on Paseo. I can walk to the counter and order more coffee or a dessert and still see my kids at the table. This is a nice feature for moms. One of my other favorite things about this location  is the bookstore next door, called Bookworks.  Stop in at Flying Star for a muffin and coffee beforehand or lunch with friends afterward. It’s a win win for busy moms.

Flying Star is also a favorite go-to for Girl’s Night Out. My girlfriends and I like to meet there on Friday nights . You don’t have to
call to make reservations and there’s usually plenty of room for large parties. Since you order at the counter, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of splitting checks or dealing with a large gratuity and there’s something on the
menu for everyone. Some order dinner with wine and others just get a pot of tea or a cup of Flying Star coffee. (Which is roasted right here in Albuquerque!) They are open until 10pm and since there aren’t servers assigned to tables, we feel free to stay and chat as long as we want.

If you haven’t been to Flying Star lately, and you’re looking for something that’s local with a menu that is pleasing to everyone’s palate, make time to go, bring the kids, and share your experience on Instagram. Tag us @abqmoms and @flyingstarcafe.  I think I might take my boys on a date there this week!
