Build A Mini Minecraft Forest – Family Fun Project

1

Behold the Mini Minecraft Forest!

Spring still hasn’t officially sprung in New Mexico this year…it’s May and it’s still cold sometimes, and windy. I enjoy gardening, but my peach tree already froze once this year, so I don’t care to risk my plants going outside for a while. When gardening time comes, I’ll refer to Amanda’s gardening resource post.  But for the time being, below is a fun and simple Mini Minecraft Forest project my son and I undertook recently. It’s a great way to squelch that hankering to use your green thumb without regard for the forecast.

You’ll need:

Potting soil

Large decorative planter

Small-to-medium sized indoor house plants of your choice

Various House Plants

A miniature house (We bought a $5 hamster house from Petsmart. You can even use an aquarium castle if you like.)

Rocks

Sand, small pebbles or crusher fine

Now…Create Your Mini Minecraft Forest!

Line the bottom of your planter with rocks. This allows for natural aeration and water seepage.

Pour in the potting soil…fill soil to about 2 inches from the top and add water to moisten the soil

This is a fun and easy project for the whole family.  It’s lovely, excites the imagination, and it helps kids learn about planting and growing.  Your children can also take on small responsibilities like watering and perhaps trimming their Mini Minecraft Forest Foliage.

For added fun, we move the figures around in the plants, pose them climbing in the trees, playing hide and seek, or engaging in epic battles.  Not into Minecraft?  The possibilities are endless – My Little Pony, Shopkins, Legos, Littlest Pet Shop, or any little figurine your child chooses can live in their forest.
